Commercial Lighting Design: Duchesne Academy

McKay Landscape Lighting recently completed a commercial outdoor lighting design at Duchesne Academy of the Sacred Heart in Omaha, Nebraska. The historic school building is five stories high and required unique fixtures to properly illuminate all of its architectural features. 

Before installing the low-voltage landscape lighting, the McKay team worked with a local electric company to change the existing high-voltage lights to LED, which eliminated 2,926 watts.

Given the height of the building, we needed a low-voltage fixture powerful enough to light its entire height. That's not always easy to find, but then we discovered this high performance 20 watt LED solid brass fixture. It's ideal for illuminating towering trees, tall architectural features, and large flagpoles. Plus, like all of the fixtures we use, it's an architectural specifier-grade fixture made with high-quality materials and comes with a lifetime warranty. 

The low-voltage outdoor lighting design includes 185 LED fixtures around the campus and 265 LED bistro light bulbs above the patio area. After the removal of the 2,926 high-voltage watts, the low-voltage lighting added back only 1,800 watts. These exterior lighting improvements helped Duchesne Academy lower its overall energy consumption by 1,126 watts, contributing to $435 in annual savings.
