Honored to Light An Historic Omaha Building

Built in 1966, the Danish Brotherhood Building has a beautiful white stone exterior, stepped dormers, and a distinctive copper spiral shaped spire art piece that sits on top of the building. We are honored to have had the opportunity to light it, enhancing its unique architectural features and increasing safety.

The property owner and architect discussed their needs and vision for light with our designers during the consultation. They wanted the commercial landscape lighting design to make the property safer for employees, especially during the winter months when it gets darker sooner while capturing the buildings unique characteristics.

A nearby streetlight and the pole lights on the property provides the building with some light at night. The employee entrance and parking area at the back of the building were rather dark. Furthermore, the building's ornate character was lost at night.

To evenly illuminate the facade and enhance the architecture of the two-story building, we used a combination of well lights and spotlights. Our designers strategically planned the exact location of each fixture to best optimize lighting the two-story building. Other options would have left the dormers of the second story dark.

The building is surrounded by concrete which can sometimes make installing well lights difficult. Our install team was intentional with the fixture placement, carefully core drilling into the concrete, precisely matching the grout, and cleverly hiding wire underneath. In the back of the building, lights were installed on the retaining wall and near the employee entrance. It creates a safe path for employees walking to and from the parking area and entering or exiting the building.

To enhance the property's curb appeal, our designers helped match the color temperature of the pole lights with the landscape lighting on the building. Learn more about the commercial landscape lighting design... | McKay Lighting - Omaha, Nebraska

A tiny detail, but a uniform color temperature throughout elevates the overall look and allure of the ornate building. Just another way in which we consider every detail, in every part of the process to create a comprehensive design for our clients.
