FAQs FAQs

  • McKay Landscape Lighting specializes in servicing the lighting systems we design and install. We do not send our service team to maintain or repair systems installed by another company. However, we may be able to help you determine the best next step for an existing system, including discussing options for upgrading or replacing it with a McKay-designed lighting system.

  • Look for a company that understands both design and installation and can provide ongoing service after the project is complete. Ask about the quality of their fixtures and wiring, how they approach the design, how they handle maintenance, and whether they will be available to service the system years from now. A landscape lighting system is a long-term investment, so the company behind it matters.

  • Yes. We believe the design should come before the installation. We evaluate your property and determine where lighting will have the greatest impact rather than simply placing fixtures wherever they can be installed.

  • Common safety areas include walkways, stairs, steps, entrances, driveways, transitions in elevation, and frequently used outdoor living spaces. The goal is to provide enough light to navigate the property comfortably without making the space feel overly bright.

  • Landscape lighting can contribute to a safer and more secure property by improving visibility around entrances, walkways, driveways, steps, and other areas. However, effective landscape lighting does not mean flooding a property with bright light. Thoughtful placement can provide visibility while still maintaining the character and beauty of the home, and at the same time making sure you feel comfortable in your home.

  • Quality landscape lighting fixtures are built from durable materials designed to withstand outdoor conditions, typically copper and brass. McKay focuses on using high-quality fixtures that are appropriate for long-term outdoor applications.

  • Yes. We can design your system with future additions in mind, making it possible to expand as your property or outdoor spaces develop.

  • We typically look at entrances, walkways, driveways, outdoor living areas, architectural details, trees, gardens, pool deck, docks, and other areas that are important to the way the property is used. For vacation homes, we also consider visibility and safety when the property isn’t occupied regularly.

  • Especially for vacation homes, thoughtful landscape lighting can make the property more enjoyable, welcoming, and secure after dark. It allows owners and guests to enjoy outdoor spaces in the evening while also creating a more finished appearance when the home is unoccupied.
