Locating Landscape Lighting Wire Omaha NE

Fall is in the air. It's time to prepare for fall planting or that exterior home renovation project you want to get finished before the cold, winter months hit. Often times we forget how important it is to have landscape lighting wires located before starting some of these projects. In his employee spotlight, our service technician, Lucas briefly discussed its importance. Today we're going into more detail on the importance of locating your outdoor lighting system's wires by explaining how this will save you time, money, and headaches, and include projects that require wire locating.

Locating Landscape Lighting Wires before Fall Planting or Renovations will Save You Time, Money, and Headaches:

It takes about three times longer to repair cut wires than it takes to locate and flag wires. That's if the repairs needed are fairly simple; more complex projects will take much longer.

Here's an example. Let's say you're having a new sidewalk installed near some path lights. If the contractor isn't aware the wire to your lighting system runs under the sidewalk; they might accidently cut the wire and pour new concrete over it. If the service technician cannot get to the cut wires underneath the cement, the fixtures will need to be dug up and new wire installed. When this happens, it takes more time to make the repairs than to have the wire located.

Projects that Require Landscape Lighting Wire Locating:

  • Installation of new landscapes and mulch beds
  • Mulching or power edging
  • Building a wall or installing fences
  • Pouring concrete or installing hardscape
  • Planting new trees, bushes, or other major landscaping projects
  • Removal of trees, bushes, or other major landscaping renovations
  • Installation of sprinklers
  • Installation, renovation, or removal of decks and patios or any structure with outdoor lighting
  • Projects that require deep digging or trenching
  • Dog fencing

Projects that don't require deep digging shouldn't need wire locating. At McKay Lighting, we usually bury the wire 6 - 8 inches into the ground. You can always contact us if you have questions about a project you're planning to see if the wire should be located or not.
