For the people of Papillion, the Veteran's Memorial is a way to bring the community together, creating a sense of honor and pride for the men and women who have fought so bravely for this country.
As our summer days begin to wind down, we would like to share one of our most memorable projects from this year. Working with the City of Papillion we were able to illuminate Veterans Park, a local park honoring military veterans past and present. We were grateful to work on a project that pays tribute to military veterans in our local community.
Designer Andrew (A.J.) Coleman was thrilled to take lead on this project and have a hand in designing the lighting for such a unique area.
Lighting Monuments
Throughout the park, there are numerous Honor Walls to pay tribute to Sarpy County Veterans. "We chose to place two lights per side, per Honor Wall. This ensured that all the names of the veterans were properly lit," says Coleman.
A Special Feature For The Front Entrance Sign
As for the featured sign in the center of the entrance, A.J. stated that the team wanted to create a special feature for the sign, being that it was antique and had been there for a long time. Knowing this, they designed uplights with low-voltage, being able to make the sign shine bright in the night, without using up as much energy.
A Statue For Fallen Heroes
This statue is quite impressive and needed an interesting way of lighting it to make sure all sides were shown at all times. The highlighted art takes two pieces of granite that has been carved and put together to weigh an estimated total of 5,500 pounds. "This statue represents all the veterans who have died from various wars, but are all from around this area." Utilizing four different uplights on each corner of the statue, ensures that people will be able to see it from near and far.
